Your vibe attracts your tribe

Trekstock... where to even begin!

For those who don't know, Trekstock is a charity that supports young adults who have faced or are facing cancer. They help you get moving when cancer has stopped you in your tracks, help regain your confidence after cancer has stripped it from you and connects you with others who just 'get it.' They help us to thrive and stand by that no young adult should ever face cancer alone!

When I was diagnosed with cancer I was friggin terrified, but more so I was isolated - It felt like I had been dropped on a desert island all alone! Thanks to the wonderful world of instagram and stalking every young adult with Hodgkin's Lymphoma I could find, I stumbled across Trekstock. {Why I wasn't told about them at my hospital I will never know!} I went to my first event with my best friend by my side as I was so anxious so go alone and the minute I walked in, I felt like I was with 'my people.' Like I was suddenly part of a secret clan of humans who I just immediately connected with. When you get to meet others who are sadly all too familiar with the sort of trauma you are experiencing, you become kindred spirits!

The style nights I have to admit ... big fan! So much so that I travelled all the way up to Manchester for one even though I had to be in London for a hospital appointment super early the next day. This style night was actually the first Cancer Chicks X Trekstock collaborated event! There was so much there.... nails, cancer names cocktails, stylists, clothes, makeup artists and a bunch of girls all there to hang out and be pampered. Somehow Liv coerced me into having my bald head covered in glitter which I have to admit I was slightly dubious of however I can now say from experience… for anyone with a bald head, that’s you men included I highly recommend as I spent my evening feeling like a disco ball!

The Meet & Move was also brilliant - I did Yoga and exercise and had a life after cancer session. Well I tell people I did the Yoga and exercise session but I was so exhausted and weak that I spent most of it sitting on my mat watching my friend Ed attempt it all in his army boots and cargo trousers... rather amusing! Trekstock always allow plus ones at these events and not only is that perfect because you obvs need a chauffeur with you but they get to see how much Trekstock do for you. Luckily for me I have amazing friends and both Ed & Pippa have seen first hand the impact they have on me and all the other cancer humans. Ed got roped into exercise whilst Pip got the style night and it fills my heart so much that they got to be a part of it all. Ed was inspired so much by Trekstock that for the last 6 months he has completed a series of insanely physical activities like; marathons, half marathons, tough mudders, jurassic coast challenge, every month to raise money for them!!

If you are 20 - 30 ish and either have cancer or have had cancer please go and check them out. They put on all kinds of support events and programs for us which really help! I am starting their Renew program this week which is an exercise course to help me get the old fitness back up and running! in 12 weeks time I'm going to be the next female Arnie Schwarzenegger ... watch this space!

So apart from all the rather practical support they give, they also introduced me to the BADASS BABES - a group of rather fittingly named girls who all have their own cancer experiences and a group that I can easily say that if I hadn't of met would be pretty dam screwed. These girls are my rock, we celebrate together, we moan together, we talk about goats together. They have helped get me through some pretty dark places and I love them.

Trekstock is a community, a family and it doesn't matter if you have stalked each other on instagram, just met or known each other for months... you all just ‘get it’ and understand each other, it just brings you together.

*I have popped a link to their website at the top, please do go and have a look for yourself or even if you want to support them you can find out how on their website!
